Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1803 Small 8 PCGS VF-35
Lot Number: 385
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. LM-1 (R.5) has a small 8 in the date, and a leaf barely connected to "C" in AMERICA on the reverse. The detail is remarkably bold for an early half-dime, and undoubtedly borders on the XF level, just as affirmed by the PCGS VF-35 grade. Diminutive early silver like this rarely escaped the ravages of time -- not to mention use as convenient tools at-hand to contemporary Americans, but the only noticeable defects in this case seem to be a few scattered, ancient hairline scratches, and perhaps a very slight bend in the planchet toward 2:00. Delightful denim-grey combines with some cyan-gold highlights to promote notions of original surface quality. A terrific early type coin!
