Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1908-S PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 406
Description: Mintage: 22,000. 83 graded MS-62, 90 higher at PCGS. Esteemed for having the second lowest gross mintage boasting Saint-Gaudens' design (after the high-relief examples of the preceding year). The 1908-S has long captivated collectors of the series, even if a disproportionate number of them managed to get put aside in higher grade as compared to far rarer dates that began with much higher mintages. Such brief output tends to suggest higher quality specimens given limited use of the dies, and 1908-S does not disappoint. This borderline choice example features booming luster, a good strike and ideal medium golden hue. Few major or moderate contact marks affect the surface -- so few that it's easy to predict the coin will be taken on the upgrade route shortly after acquisition by the new owner.
