Lot Title: Two Native American Necklaces
Lot Number: 298
Description: This lot contains the following two items: A) Circa 1960/1970, this turquoise and sterling silver (tested, not marked) squash blossom is an absolute stunner! With 10 blossoms set between seamed beads, the sides end at the bottom with a 7-stone naja. The turquoise used in the making appears to be from the Blue Gem mine. Condition is very nice for its age with vintage patina. There is one blossom bearing a hairline that runs top to bottom. It is possible this is part of the matrix of the stone but we mention it for accuracy. Unsigned piece so tribal affiliation is unknown. Length: 23”, 4.93 troy ounces. B) Circa 1980 or so, this sterling silver (hallmarked) necklace is designed as a sun wheel. From noted silversmith, Juliana Williams of the Navajo tribe, this four-section necklace with an adjustable chain features a massive amount of bezel set turquoise cabs that appear to be from the Carico Lake or Crow Springs mine. Signed piece. Condition is very nice with a vintage patina to the metal. Length: 29.5”, 3.68 troy ounces History of the Design: The Sun symbol is of great importance to the Navajo Tribe, honored by them as the provider of light, heat and growth. The rays of the sun signified the cardinal directions, North, South, East and West.
