Description: Zelink 7-E (R.3). Collectors sometimes wonder why even AU examples display such coarse detail, and the reason is because the dies were intentionally engraved such that newly minted coins would already appear worn. Therefore, the coins would appear to have already circulated widely thus leading to their acceptance by the public as a medium of exchange. So-called "residue", an apt description, likely references excessive application of "Blue Ribbon" or some other numismatic protectant. Reducing the amount on the coin should likely make it acceptable at a straight grade.
