Description: Ryder-18 (R.5). These are typically struck over existing stock, whether contemporary counterfeits or merely repurposed legitimate coppers of the many disparate types then in circulation, and remnants still show, in particular REX at 12:00. An ebony-dark example with signs of modest corrosion, the surface appears glossy with evidence of light scratches. The planchet has been bent noticeably, but not severely, some two-thirds way down the obverse.
