Description: Sheffield Collection. Mintage: 26,900. 35 graded AU53, 60 higher at PCGS. Quite sharp for AU-53, the grade undoubtedly aims for higher consideration except that the overall number of smaller abrasions likely limits the possibilities. Carson City double-eagles, even more than silver dollars, have a reputation for taking on abrasions during storage and rough transport so this is no surprise. The surface offers copious frosty luster -- more than expected of the grade -- with the reverse particularly vibrant when viewed under a good numismatic lamp. No noticeable copper spots.
