Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1895 NGC PR-62
Lot Number: 552
Description:

30 graded PR-62, 157 higher at NGC. Die-2 has the bottom loop of the "9" filled, and also shows some fill beneath the flag of "5". Not as often as we'd like are we fortunate enough to be able to offer a representative of the most famous of all proof Morgan Dollar issues. Today, we have the privilege of offering two of them. The date needs little introduction as the only emission within the series having no known circulation strikes, despite the listed commercial emission of 12,000 pieces.

Almond toning endows the surface with agreeable presence and recedes into some russet accents toward the outer fringes of the obverse. The patina helps downplay some hairlines that are not particularly numerous, but which almost certainly ascribe to NGC's grade. Both sides are struck to an extravagant level of detail, with the reverse seemingly fully struck, and the obverse lacking the merest smidgeon of a thread over the ear. A tiny strikethrough rests atop the eagle's brow and provides a reliable provenance marker. Given that the PR-62 numeric level falls below the "choice" threshold, this is definitely an attractive example and well worth consideration as a numismatic prize.
