Lot Title: 1895 PCGS PR-60 (green label)
Lot Number: 551
Description:

J.R. Collection. Mintage: 880. Given the basal PR-60 grade, either side technically lacks the brilliance expected of a proof, as the reflectivity of the fields has become mostly hidden beneath a layer of heavier dusky toning. Of course, such may be indicating that the coin has not been cleaned or heavily dipped (at least, not recently), and has retained its surface intact for decades, secure and untouched within the old PCGS slab. Further, although the general appearance is razor-sharp, some of the details at the exact center of each side modestly miss absolute completeness. Therefore, the "look" somewhat mimics that of a circulation strike (albeit in high grade), which is famously unlikely since all 1895 dollars intended for circulation were supposed to have been melted. Regardless, this is an acceptable representation of the true King of Morgan dollars - an example that has managed to escape any impairments that could have resulted in a "details" grade.
