Description: Bass-Dannreuther-2 shows a perfect "1" in the date and the point of the thirteenth star embedded into the bust, and on the reverse, the eagle's right (observed) talon is actually attached to the final "A". An advanced stage of die cracking on the obverse die was not a sufficient deterrent from a great strike, as the reverse, in particular, displays strong, near-mint detailing. The reason for the obverse die crack becomes obvious once the observer detects plentiful evidence of a clashed die, and an inverted star from the reverse clearly shows on the obverse, embedded into the base of Liberty's neck. Thin patina filters across this choice AU example, and although both dies were obviously well-rusted prior to striking, a very fair amount of luster remains visible throughout.
