Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1893-S PCGS XF-40
Lot Number: 366
Description: Mintage: 100,000. 1893-S possesses the lowest production level to have reached actual circulation, and in addition to such low mintage, many thousands were melted during the Pittman Act, resulting in even greater rarity compared to the few other dates of comparable mintage. Design elements for this slightly brilliantish XF example reveal pleasing delineation, except that the eagle's breast feathers are fairly smooth due to simple, honest wear. A faint trace of luster can still be found lurking near the rim, and a handful of slightly larger contact marks injure Liberty's face. At this grade, it can be instructive to locate the tiny die scratch within "T" of LIBERTY, which is the best authentication detail for this oft-counterfeited dollar.
