Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1893-S PCGS XF-40
Lot Number: 367
Description: Blackjack Can Collection. Mintage: 100,000. VAM-1 distinguishes from VAM-2 by the normal position of the mintmark, centered upright within the reverse field. Anyone who has benefited from looking at numerous genuine 1893-S examples can practically authenticate from the position of the mintmark alone, but of course, the obverse shows the expected diagnostics, including "rabbit ears" inside the lower left serif of "R" in LIBERTY. Tantalizing luster places this example squarely at the XF or better grade level, as has been ascertained by PCGS. Champagne color spreads across the surface and helps to suffuse some fairly irrelevant hairlines in the fields that seem be the result of normal handling within the channels of commerce. Not even a single large contact mark invades either side, but the obverse displays a fair number of tiny abrasions, including several that have been somewhat smoothed away by typical wear on the cheek.
