Lot Title: Ancient Greece - 336-323 BC Tetradrachm - Alexander III XF
Lot Number: 76
Description: The F. Raphael Collection. Obv: head of Herakles wearing lion skin faces right. Rev: Zeus Aetophoros seated on throne facing left with sceptre in left hand and eagle on his right hand, MI in left field over bee, mitry monogram within wreath below throne. By Seleukos I Nikator (312-281 BC) circa 311-300 BC at the Babylon mint, this silver tetradrachm was struck in the name of Alexander the Great (III), hence the labeling on the marvelous holder that protects this coin. The obverse could hardly be better centered for the type while the reverse, as usually seen, is modestly non-centered, slightly favoring the right side. Attractive surfaces and terrific historic appeal. Very-fine to extremely-fine.
