Lot Title: 1882 PCGS PR-65+ CACCAC
Lot Number: 745
Description: Mintage: 125. 1 graded PF-65+ DCAM, 7 higher at PCGS. 1882 marks the first date of increased production of proof gold dollars, relative to the very low mintages of the preceding two decades. Yet, subsequent dates would benefit from far higher emissions still, and the 1882 remains excessively elusive at the gem level or better. Admittedly, one would expect most 1882 proofs to offer tremendous cameo potential, but the profound contrast seen here instantly marks this as a limited-production survivor, since the mirrored fields break with frosty devices at a startling level of abruptness. A number of very faint, transitory hairlines most certainly ascertain the grade, nevertheless the exemplary eye-appeal cannot be denied.
