Description: Mintage: 10,500. The proof dies for 1868 only struck twenty-five pieces before being placed into production for circulation strikes, so one can easily assume that many subsequent emissions would retain prooflike character. NGC denotes that as being the case for this flashing little jewel. And sure enough, the first impression one has is that of a dead-on proof, albeit with some hairlines in the fields. So close is the proof impersonation that a lint mark rests just left of the date.
