Lot Title: 1921-D PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 505
Description: Mintage: 208,000. 78 graded MS-63, 140 higher at PCGS. A top key to the series in any grade, 1921-D ranks as the second or third most difficult acquisition toward completion of a set of Walking Liberty half-dollars at the Choice UNC level. Aside from lowest emission, the 1921-D flat-out circulated, and survivors even at the extremely-fine level are scarce as hen's teeth. Almond-grey color seen here could not be better for a reasonably well-preserved example, with neither side showing more than the lightest hint of mellow hue. Unexpectedly few contact marks will be located in the obverse right field, and even Liberty's torso shows far fewer of the pre-striking planchet ticks usually found, and one must turn to the reverse to find two small, peculiar linear scrapes at the juncture of the eagle's wing to realize why an even higher grade was suppressed by PCGS.
