Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. 4 graded MS-65, 1 higher at PCGS. With only 68 examples certified at PCGS across all grades, it becomes no surprise that gem examples are exceedingly rare, and indeed, the single finest known example sold at auction in May 2015, perhaps making this "second chance" opportunity at acquisition rather unusual. This particular issue tends to wear down from UNC to VF with exceptional alacrity because they are basically always found poorly struck, causing the faint details to rapidly disappear with even the lightest wear. Fortunately, the strong underlying luster for this exquisite survivor emphatically makes the case for a high grade, even though dusky, molten amber-gold patina washes completely over the surfaces.
