Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1813 NGC MS-62+
Lot Number: 956
Description: Mintage: 95,428. For an early half-eagle, the mintage near a hundred-thousand was actually quite large, and all known examples were struck off of only two die-marriages. This is an impressive coin that falls just shy of "choice" properties, according to NGC's MS-62+ grade. Close examination reveals no blatantly obvious deficiencies, although two narrow shallow scratches may be found right in front of Liberty's forehead, providing the only major surface abrasion. For sure, shining, frosty lemon-gold luster could not be faulted, and the design elements were sharply brought up by a very good strike. Early gold coins are frequently afflicted by adjustment marks, but such is not the case here. A great "choice" for type!
