Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1845 PCGS PR-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 393
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. Mintage: up to 10 (estimated). 2 graded PF-64, 1 higher at PCGS. That the 1845 half-dime in proof format is an exceedingly rare coin cannot be doubted, as PCGS has certified precisely three in all grades (and NGC 6, discounting cross- and re-submissions). The formidable appeal of such scarcity only amplifies the technical attributes, which include exacting sharpness never seen on coins half-heartedly produced for circulation. Dentils strike up as fully formed tiny rectangles all the way around the obverse, and although the huge PCGS rubber gasket completely hides the rim, one might well expect carefully squared off edges, given the magnificent striking pressure. Apple-green patina drenches the fields, outlined in areas by some bright chartreuse-gold accents.
