Lot Title: 1844-O PCGS MS-62 CACCAC
Lot Number: 392
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. Valentine-2 "small O", struck in medallic alignment (180 degree turn). Mintage: 220,000. 5 graded MS-62, 5 higher at PCGS. Apple-gold and jade-grey hues intertwine across the entire surface, bathing the coin in undeniably original patina. A remarkable New Orleans strike produced perfectly defined stars on the obverse and appears to have brought up all of Liberty's hair details, as well as all leaf details on the reverse, save that of the lowest right leaf. PCGS did not note the Valentine variety for the type, and the medal turn of the striking will only add to the appeal of this key to an uncirculated collection.
