Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1829 PCGS PR-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 388
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. LM-2 has a double dentil pointed to by the first star on the obverse, and the total emission of proof strikings (or specimens) has not been well established, although it would most certainly be exceedingly limited. One might guess the mintage at about ten pieces. That PCGS was able to nab this example as a proof is quite remarkable given how well it mimics a strong circulation strike coin. While generally sharp overall, what sets this apart from a mundane striking is the presence of exceedingly fine die-lines centering the points of several of the stars. These would only be brought up with an exacting effort during production. The fields also offer some intriguing reflectivity that would suggest a specially prepared planchet. Lovely apple-gold and magenta-jade splashes the fields and contributes to the superior eye-appeal.
