Description: Bert Davies Collection. 419 graded MS-64, 102 higher at PCGS. VAM-5, medium mintmark, and the same obverse as VAM-4 (found elsewhere in today's sale) except for a later die-state that includes delicate die cracks through the date and attached to occasional peripheral devices. This is a flamboyant example that quite nearly approaches prooflike character given the nice cameo contrast between textured portraits and lustrous fields. While the population might seem too high to be of concern, this is such a well-known grade-rarity that the figures must surely be greatly inflated by resubmissions.
