Description: Bert Davies Collection. VAM-4, Top-100 "S over horizontal S". 23 graded MS-62 PL, 59 higher at NGC unattributed. The advantage of a prooflike coin such as this, coming off of early dies, is that the erroneous "horizontal S" remains substantially visible with a loupe. This is one terrific example for the VAM collector as the coins almost appears undergraded, given that the reflective fields unfairly exaggerate some straggled abrasions. That does not even begin to discuss the fact that 1895-S is such a grade-rarity that commands enormous jumps in value per point above MS-60.
