Lot Title: 1942/1-D NGC MS-64 FB CACCAC
Lot Number: 938
Description: The First Through Last Collection. 27 graded MS-64 FB, 17 higher at NGC. While much rarer than its Philadelphia cousin, the 1942/1-D is not valued as highly, apparently because the overdate feature is not as visibly obvious as it is for the 1942/1. Regardless, this is a fabulous example of the popular and highly esteemed die variety. Roll-fresh white surfaces display prodigious luster and only very faint, occasional dots of orange that cannot possibly distract. Given how well struck and carefully preserved this dime is, it's tough to tell why it couldn't reach the gem grade level, although the brilliance on the reverse cannot fully disguise a faint, shallow scrape in the obverse right field.
