Lot Title: 1921-S NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 840
Description: High Promises Collection. 4 graded MS-61, 102 higher at NGC. Obviously, any half-dollar brandishing the date "1921" is a key to Walking Liberty half-dollars, but 1921-S has the curious attribute of being the easiest of the three branches up through very-fine. Above that, everything suddenly flips on its head and San Francisco becomes the undisputed key to the entire series.

Either side of this utterly white example radiates bright presence as viewed under a good lamp. Typical strike quality (for the date) shows modest weakness at Liberty's head yet the center of either side is not as softly detailed as is often seen. Delicate stacking friction shows as a whisper of grey on Liberty’s bust and knee and on the eagle's brow, but for sure, this is a technical "uncirculated" example. Additional accolades will include a lack of marks or distractions and decent luster, and one must assume the coin was kept back from a higher grade by a number of light, feathery hairlines seen within the fields.
