Lot Title: 1921-D NGC MS-62
Lot Number: 839
Description: High Promises Collection. 22 graded MS-62, 151 higher at NGC. Instantly recognized as a key to the series, the 1921-D will frequently show a weak strike as well, explaining a head-start on loss of detail that resulted in so many heavily worn examples found in complete collections. While not well struck, this near-choice specimen shows that usual softness from Liberty's head down to her hand, although the strike is actually just slightly better than average for the date. Surprisingly potent luster beams from the surface, augmented by a reasonable level of coral-orange hue mixed with silvery undertones. Three reedmarks in the obverse right field represent the only mentionable contact, which means this coin is actually significantly better preserved than expected for only MS-62. Thus, one infers the possibly conservative grade was mostly determined by strike.
