Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1803 Small Stars Reverse NGC UNC details/obverse cleaned
Lot Number: 375
Description: Quint Gomillion Colllection. Bass-Dannreuther-3 (R.4), "small stars reverse". The bottom right serif of "E" in STATES centers directly over a space between clouds. All early type gold of this nature is very rare in mint-state grades and NGC could very well have called this MS-60 with no disclaimers, as the cleaning seen amounts to little more than fluttering hairlines within the fields. Indeed, the coin actually appears to grade straight as AU-58 with no disclaimer to the cataloger's eye, but obviously, NGC has seen many more of these than most observers. A very decent strike lacks definition only on the obverse toward the upper right of the array of stars -- a common characteristic for these eagles.
