Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1829 NGC MS-62
Lot Number: 277
Description: Jody Harrison Collection. Bass-Dannreuther-1 (R.4+). 8 graded MS-62, 16 higher at NGC. The cataloger suggests this to be an early strike in die-state "a", showing no clashes nor evidence of lapped dies. That said, it is not the earliest possible strike since there is no more than the merest whisper of the prooflike effect seen on earlier coins that remain extant today. The 1829 holds a special place for type collectors, representing the first "closed collar" emission for Philadelphia.

Highly acceptable for MS-62, either side displays evidence of faint abrasions only, including fewer than a handful of very shallow nicks on the cheek. The numeric grade was more likely determined by fragile hairlines, a few of which scatter in and out of the fields when viewed under magnification. The cataloger could find no evidence of adjustment marks or copper spots anywhere across the entire surface.
