Lot Number: 832
Description: Caliber Collection. FS-302, 1875-$/$. What many consider to be the best variety within the 20-cent series, FS-302 has a repunched mintmark, the second punching rotated over the first so as to yield the appearance of a dollar sign. Further, the obverse has an underrated misplaced digit, showing the top of an errant "5" buried in the denticles beneath "7" of the date. If that were not enough appeal just based upon the variety, this also happens to be an exceptionally attractive specimen for just a lowly MS-63 grade -- so attractive that it rates a Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award. Fabulous luster -- much too nice to be denigrated at the "choice" level -- illuminates ruby-viol, Navy blue and pink-grey within the obverse right field, while the reverse has developed a limited amount of orange-grey toning. Pinpoint sharp and dynamic.
