Description: Caliber Collection. Mintage: 5000. 14 graded MS-65, 9 higher at PCGS. 886 proof half-dollars were struck in 1886 but circulation strikes frequently show up prooflike. With meticulous details throughout, and despite gorgeous, blended toning in hues of spearmint-blue, lilac-orange, ocean-gold that tends to suppress reflectivity, this appears to be a strongly prooflike example except for rims that are not nearly squared off. The surfaces remain marvelously preserved and free of all except for the tiniest mark or abrasions. No wonder the Scotsman Cataloger's Award applies, as the expected strong bids will undoubtedly affirm.
