Lot Title: 1879 NGC MS-67
Lot Number: 793
Description: Ms. Anna's Collection. Mintage: 4800. 20 graded MS-67, 2 graded MS-67 "star", 2 higher at NGC. While Philadelphia spent most of its time producing silver dollars, the scant emission of half-dollars was taken off of highly polished dies that predominantly created prooflike examples. Astute collectors recognize that this is a situation inverted from that of silver dollars whereby fully frosted specimens are actually rarer than their flashy counterparts! Here is a densely lustrous coin whose deeply saturated turquoise and chartreuse-rose overtones combine with somewhat brilliant fields to help downplay reflectivity which technically exists in the fields. Details bear up well against close scrutiny as the coin was struck to an exceptional level on either side.
