Lot Title: 1868 three-cent nickel J-618 NGC PR-66 Ultra Cameo
Lot Number: 491
Description: Rum'n'Cola Collection. Judd-618, Pollock-687 (R.4). 1 graded PR-66 UCAM, zero higher, making this the finest known pattern 1868 3-cent nickel. The design of either side mimics that of the circulation strike issues except with more spacing between elements so as to fit on the larger planchet. This is an extraordinary example that surely rivals the finest quality possible, as both sides gleam with unfathomably bright chromelike brilliance while the devices contrast incredibly well beneath sandy texture. As befits a coin believed to be the finest known proof of its kind, the cataloger could find no mentionable hairlines, but did locate a few trivial milk spots of negligible importance.
