Lot Title: 1859 NGC MS-62
Lot Number: 857
Description: The Crimson Collection. A coin need not be expensive to warrant Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award. In this case, the humble grade of MS-62 completely understates the astonishing eye-appeal generated by this generally common Antebellum example. Album placement has induced rich, vivid album colors on both sides, beginning outside with chartreuse-vanilla, then descending through the spectrum of teal, turquoise-red, orange and back to russet lemon near the center. Furthermore, the wispy hairlines that occasion the surface and probably determine the grade practically disappear into the lovely color scheme. One detraction worthy of mention -- a moderate carbon patch near the arrowheads on the reverse -- luckily resides on the less important side.
