Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1805 NGC MS-63
Lot Number: 845
Description: Browning-3, Tompkins die-state 5/2. The flag of the 5 in the date stands well clear of the bust, and on the reverse, the end of the eagle's left (observed) wing perfectly bisects the left serif of "A" above. In this die state, the reverse will always feature a bit of softness in the reverse upper stars, noticeably present for this wonderful, smooth example. Vanilla-grey patina generally graces the surface, thinning at the peripheral devices where almond-gold luster shines through. B-3 may be the most common variety for 1805 and the usual choice for type, but there is nothing common about the level of preservation seen here. Each side has managed to remain free from even moderate contact, and there are no hairlines at all to be accounted for.
