Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1893-S PCGS F-15
Lot Number: 548
Description: Hobnob Collection. As has been demonstrated in a prior auction catalog, most of the 1893-S dollars that survive today actually grade in the Fine to Very-Fine levels -- exactly the area of the spectrum where the present example falls. It is true that what's available on the market at any given time may be a preponderance of low grade examples, but the prudent collector who can add just a little patience to his numismatic funds would be wise to hold out for a much more satisfying example like this, replete with ample bold details and showing completely problem-free surfaces.

Some orange coloration on the reverse merges into the obverse lower left field as well, but most of the more important side shows a distinct combination of Navy-blue, graphite, and orange-grey hues that amplify pleasing circulation-cameo effect. Sometimes, a Fine-15 dollar can actually be a VF example with problems that result in a silent net-grade, but not so here as the entire surface almost completely evades contact. A shallow linear abrasion crosses the eagle's breast and a very few completely inconspicuous little surface nicks show under magnification.
