Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1859 cent J-227 PCGS PR-64
Lot Number: 433
Description: Judd-227 (R.6-), Snow-PT3. Amazingly, there was a time when these rare and exceptionally popular patterns still showed up in collections of Indian cents because the obverse used the actual production die meant for circulating examples. The reverse mimics circulation examples as well except for the more ornate shield at the top of the wreath. Judd-227 was struck in both proof and specimen formats (i.e., not intended to circulated, but not proof, either) and the gentle reflectivity and faint contrast seen here lead to the PCGS "proof" designation. Robust golden copper hue embraces the entire obverse while the reverse displays considerable lavender overtones.
