Description: Sheffield Collection. 8 graded MS-60, 6 higher at NGC. Even a population report this low almost certainly gets a little inflated by resubmissions. An 1880-CC that manages to cross into UNC territory garners a considerable reward for its owner, and NGC suggests at least 80 grading incidents in the AU-50/58 range, many of which undoubtedly represent one to many attempts to push an individual AU coin into UNC territory.

There should be no doubt for this example, which seems slightly nicer than MS-60 at first glance, and shows absolutely full, unworn details. Granted, because of considerable abrading of the surface, luster thins into the fields, yet NGC evidently attributes that to storage, rather than actual circulation. A circumferential die crack connects much of the reverse lettering, as is seen for many examples.
