Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1811 XF details/rim dent
Lot Number: 677
Description: Sheldon-287, the only die-marriage for 1811. Struck from later dies, the obverse left rim displays narrow breaks in the dentils, and minor die bulges and evidence of clashing confirm well-used dies. The odd-date Classic Head cents of 1809, 1811 and 1813 are more difficult to locate than their even-date counterparts, and 1811 is particularly elusive with nice surfaces. From that standpoint, this is an exceptional representative for the "extremely-fine" grade level. Flowline luster shows plainly across smooth fields and the planchet quality far exceeds expectations for the type, showing only a small, isolated area of irregularity at K1 of the obverse periphery. Unfortunately, an edge ding folds the rim over just a hair into the focal area at K-10, but this is an easily forgivable intrusion given the beautiful overall appearance.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
