Description: There was no way this lot could avoid being awarded the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award because it is so much more than just some common error note. Rather, the original finder, in 1973, suspected the note of being fraudulent and sent a letter to the Cashier of the West Plains Bank of Missouri inquiring as to such, and included the present note therein. The bank replied on THE DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY / UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE letterhead, informing the consignor as to the genuine nature of the note, albeit also mentioning the "misprint", and suggesting that the consignor "remove it from circulation". The letter is in very fine condition and the note extremely-fine or so, but such things as "grade" are so secondary to such a marvelous consignment.
