Lot Title: 1923-S PCGS MS-65
Lot Number: 700
Description: 63 graded MS-65, 15 higher at PCGS. 1923-S has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most difficult issues within the entire series to locate well struck and on good planchet stock. Technically, this coin does not possess a full strike, yet just one look is all it takes to confirm a very good strike, which is always just about the best one can ask for of a '23-S. The bison's horn is sharply outlined and appears nearly fully rounded up in relief, and the split in the end of the tail remains mostly visible. Turning to the obverse, letters in LIBERTY display full outlines but appear a trifle weak at their tops. This is still much better than expected, since it often merges into the rim on poorly struck examples. An exceptional 1923-S, all things considered, free from contact and thoroughly doused in amber-gold toning.
