Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1838 PCGS MS-64+BN
Lot Number: 600
Description: Newcomb-1 certainly qualifies as one of the most common die-marriages for 1838, attributed by noticing an extra flag on the "1" in the date, and strong repunching of "I" in UNITED and "E" of AMERICA. Evidently a later die-state, dentils between 6:00 and 7:00 of the obverse have a squashed appearance, and other dentils are poorly reproduced due to the well-worn dies. Utterly splendid luster races around the fields on both sides, unimpeded by pretty neon-purple nuances over the brown patina. All fields look amazingly clean and it isn't really obvious what disqualifies a "gem" grade.
