Description: The K.C. Collection. VAM-3 features faint doubling of the date, and at this die-state, a small chip adheres into the right recess of the second "8". The top loop of the mintmark is somewhat filled in. Somewhat like the succeeding 1884-S, albeit to a lesser extent, 1883-S is a well-known grade rarity within the series, and choice examples are elusive, placing a good deal of demand on much nicer MS-62 representatives. Pleasing, albeit narrow rim tone adorns both sides of this slightly dulled, yet still vibrant example.
