Lot Title: 1929 UNC details/cleaned
Lot Number: 415
Description: J.R. Collection. Not so long ago, even a much better collection of Saint-Gaudens double-eagles would be expected to terminate with a 1928 example, as the 1929 was a very rare coin that kicked off a series of five uncollectable (essentially) emissions. Thanks to the return of occasional specimens from European hoards, the population has slowly increased to a point where the date can be had, albeit for a hefty sum of dollars, today.

Here is an unexpected opportunity for the collector in the form of a 1929 double-eagle that the cataloger believes to retain uncirculated details, commensurate with decent luster overall. The reverse appears fully vibrant and free from any potential offense, while the obverse left field has been dulled just a bit from a visit by the jeweler's cloth. Curiously, mostly unencumbered luster continues to flows into the obverse right field. Although facial features generally eluded capture by the strike, the coin possesses reasonably strong details overall, especially on the reverse, where it appears the eagle received fully articulated feathers.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
