Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1846-C PCGS XF details/cleaned
Lot Number: 238
Description: Mintage: 4808. A fire in the summer of 1844 prevented Charlotte from producing quarter-eagles until 1846, during which year only a very low emission actually emerged. Thus, any 1846-C must be considered scarce and desirable even in light of such caveats as the PCGS "cleaned" disclaimer. The coin is rare in any grade and almost never seen sharper than the "XF" level ascribed here, as extensive detailing within the eagle's feathers should please most collectors. Curious remnants of glue residue crumble over the surface in a couple of places, the partial removal of which may have resulted in the pale lemon-gold appearance now seen.
