Lot Title: 1882-O/S Strong PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 396
Description: Captain Jack Collection. VAM-4 late die-state, which PCGS lumps into a "strong" category, but which really entails a recessed "S". 245 graded MS-64, 23 higher at PCGS. Were the 1882-O/S considered a "regular" issue, and not a die variety, it would be much more expensive at MS-64 as can be guessed by the limited population. But even in this age of collecting certified example, collectors often follow the guidance of albums which almost never had a special spot for the O/S. Both dies were substantially rusted prior to repolishing, as is often seen, yet New Orleans got the most detail the could get of them for this particular, unexpectedly sharp example.
