Lot Title: 1907 High Relief-Wire Rim PCGS AU-58 CACCAC
Lot Number: 279
Description: In any grade within the AU range, a given high-relief Saint should retain the vast majority of the as-struck appeal at a mere fraction of the cost of truly uncirculated example. Frankly, this nicely preserved AU-58 possesses better appeal than many examples grading up to MS-61 which the cataloger has reviewed. Indeed, the only true signs of handling affect the very characteristic that give the "wire rim" examples their moniker. In effect, some ticking of the finely upraised edge proves the coin has interacted with other hard surfaces.

Interestingly, the highest relief portions of the design display scarcely any wear at all, and indeed, full mint luster flows through the fields. However, examining the most expansive areas with a loupe shows the presence of very light, trivial abrasions and a tick or two. A tiny carbon spot rests just right of Liberty's head, and the extreme left edge of the reverse displays an exceedingly narrow band of darker matter worked into the recess, again disproving mint-state status (scotia).
