Description: The Alabama Collection. While it cannot be denied that the S.S Central America holdings greatly inflated certified populations for 1857-S (to the boon of collectors), the fact remains that true "gem" examples are esteemed by collectors and are highly desirable. The grandeur of the present example cannot be denied. Sensational luster gleams and glitters from each side, doused in rolling texture on the obverse while the reverse faces up with swinging, helicopter bands of luminescence. An extremely well defined example, accurately struck from edge to edge right down to individual dentils.
