Description: Ex-S.S. Central America. More than a thousand examples of 1856-S were reclaimed from the ocean floor, and most are lightly circulated by today's grading standards, including the present AU-53. Very delicate abrasions and hairlines shimmer and flutter within the fields, accompanied by a few moderate contact marks. The surfaces do appear a bit semi-prooflike when caught under a brilliant light.
