Lot Title: 1834 Small Date, Small Letters PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 857
Description: Overton-114. The third and fourth stars are so boldly recut as to be recognizable without the use of a loupe, and further investigation confirms the doubled outline of the clasp that is characteristic of the die-marriage. On the reverse (hub 8, per Glenn Peterson's book), "E" in E PLURIBUS UNUM rests next to a previously eradicated, erroneous placement that is plain to see in this excellent, earlier die-state. Also characteristic of O-114, the end of the bust and the lower right curls are poorly defined, while in opposition, excellent sharpness shows on the reverse. A narrow band of reddish gold and violet clings to part of the rims, and frames a presentation that is mostly pale orange-sherbet in hue. Notable as a grade determinant, a small but sharp dig floats above "4" in the date.
