PCGS merely mentions "scarface" but a close look at the extent of the obverse die-break confirms the outstanding terminal (or nearly terminal) die-state that has become heavily coveted by specialists. The break extends well into the hair curls on Liberty's shoulder, marking the true late die-state for the "scarface" die-marriage -- in fact, the latest that your favorite cataloger has personally examined. Since publication and popularization by the VAM reference, the variety has become notorious for the manner in which nearly all are heavily bagmarked, and even this borderline "choice" example displays a number of prominent abrasions. Toning sprinkles the periphery and has a color and pattern highly reminiscent of Redfield dollars. A sensational treasure for silver dollar specialists of all levels.
