Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1795 PCGS AU-50
Lot Number: 679
Description: Logan-McCloskey-8, R.3 has the right two points of the first star pointing rather neatly above and below the second point of the tresses without either point touching. Each individual letter of LIBERTY tends to be rotated slightly clockwise, unevenly spaced, with a fine die crack descending from "Y". The obverse die was used with only two die-marriages, and for LM-8, two berries pair up beneath the first "T" in STATES. Moderate, antique lavender-grey cloaks the obverse, surrounded by powdery olive-gold accents, while the reverse has become enriched by deeper bronze-grey, relieved suddenly at the eagle's right (observed) wing by a bright flash of silvery white. From the standpoint of truly original coins, representation given here is not far off as the surface has only slightly glossy effect after decades of proper, long-term storage, and few collectors will be opposed to calling this a reasonably vintage coin. Inspection with a loupe reveals a significant number of obverse adjustment marks, while the reverse has none at all.
